Usually the crafsman of the trade is called a coach-builder, but rightfully it ought to be wheelwrigt and coach-builder. The work had been to make the woodwork in connection with making horsedrawn vehicles, while other craftsmen as blacksmiths and saddlers/upholsterers have made another part of the work.

Early in the time the trade had separated from other trades, and the name wheelwright we know in Denmark from 14th century, while coach-builder first appears as late as about 1750. In the country it often has been carpenters, who made wheels and vehicles, and that they have done completely into the 20th century.
